These life guides are completely accurate and factual, except when they're not.

Finance

  • Money is hard. If you're spending less than you earn, you're already doing great
  • Set up automatic savings/investment deposits if you can. The best are the ones you don't even notice, but will still accrue over time (advice from Jim Kloss).
  • Recurring payments are the devil. Cull them, and be hawkish about introducing new ones!

Replies you can ignore

  • Ones that are deliberately obtuse
  • Ones that end with an ellipsis (…)
  • Ones written in bad faith

Things that are unquestionably true

  • Most rules have exceptions
  • You have worth
  • You should do no wrong, but take no shit
  • You probably will finish that bag of crisps even if you're not hungry

Things you don't have to do

  • Beat yourself up over something, rather than learning and moving on (let me know if you learn how)
  • Justify your hobbies!
  • Respond to demands from strangers in email or social media

Times when it's appropriate to use your phone speaker
